Who is Lamoille FiberNet? Board Profile: Carol Fano

In any organization, there is at least one person who is a “quiet pillar,” and in Lamoille FiberNet CUD, Carol Fano is definitely one of them.

Since our CUD’s inception, Fano has worked ceaselessly behind the scenes as a one-person IT department, setting up IT systems that meet the State’s public records and archiving regulations, troubleshooting both hardware and software issues, and training volunteer board members.

“I doubt that any one Lamoille FiberNet board member could estimate how many hours Carol puts into our CUD each month,” said Jeff Tilton, Lamoille FiberNet’s board chair. “She[JC1]  not only sets up our systems and keeps them running, she is also constantly improving them.”

Fano’s expertise comes from her years of working in nonprofit, healthcare and education IT sectors for the past 20 years. She is at home in the datacenter, writing security plans, and training non-technical staff.

When asked why she chose to help bring broadband internet to Lamoille County, Fano noted that it was an opportunity to give back to her community.

Fano lives in Hyde Park and has been a resident of Vermont and Lamoille County for 10+ years. Previously, she lived in Chatham, on Cape Cod. Fano holds an extra-class amateur radio operator license and is a member of the Vermont Emergency Management RACES program, and she is a former career firefighter/paramedic and Massachusetts State HazMat team member. Fano earned her AS in fire science from Cape Cod Community College, and in her “spare” time, she enjoys boating, skiing, hiking, kayaking, farming and beekeeping.
