Lamoille FiberNet receives $10,000 grant from Vermont Community Foundation

Middlebury, VT, July 17, 2020 – The Vermont Community Foundation has identified rural connectivity/broadband as one of five Covid Recovery initiatives, and the Lamoille FiberNet Communications Union District (Lamoille FiberNet) has received a $10,000 grant to support its initial work in improving broadband in the Lamoille region.

“We are very grateful for the Vermont Community Foundation’s recognition of how important it is to expand broadband in rural regions such as ours,” said Michael Rooney, Lamoille FiberNet chair. “Our work in addressing the inequitable distribution of broadband is a very good fit with the foundation’s focus on closing the opportunity gap, and we appreciate their support.”

The grant will likely be used to offset some of the initial organizational costs needed to help launch the Lamoille FiberNet’s work.

The mission of Lamoille FiberNet Communications Union District (LFCUD) is to make locally controlled, affordable and reliable high-speed internet service available to every address in our member towns.
