New Fiber Construction, New Drop Policy
Fidium has kicked off the final phase of Lamoille FiberNet’s Universal Service Plan this week, bringing high-speed fiber internet to more homes in Elmore, Hyde Park, Wolcott, Stowe, and Morristown. The network construction will focus on key areas like East Elmore, the Bornemann Road section of Hyde Park, and parts of Wolcott along VT Route 15. In Morristown, crews will complete fiber spurs near Ferland Pit, Lois Lane, and North Wolcott Road. Stowe will see service added at the end of Luce Hill, Lower Sanborn, and the Edson Hill/Weeks Hill area. Construction should wrap up by mid-summer, weather permitting. Check out the 2025 construction map at www.lamoillefiber.net.
Even better, Fidium just expanded its standard fiber “drop” distance from 500 feet to 2,000 feet (the “drop” is the distance from the pole/pedestal to your premises)—this applies not only to Lamoille FiberNet-funded drops, but all locations within Fidium’s service area. This is a big deal, since high drop costs are one of the biggest roadblocks for Vermonters trying to get connected.
For those with more complex setups, we’re working with Fidium to develop cost estimates and plans to use local or state grant funds to offset those costs. If you or someone you know was told last year that your address exceeded Fidium’s (old) standard drop of 500 feet, you/they will need to reach out to them at 877-760-2789 to re-initiate your installation process. Of course, if you have any questions, please email us at drops@lamoillefiber.net and we’ll be happy to assist!
