Lamoille FiberNet: New Construction; New Install Policy

This week, Fidium will begin construction on the final phase of Lamoille FiberNet’s Universal Service Plan. Funded by a Vermont Community Broadband Board grant and Consolidated Communications, the project will bring high-speed fiber internet services to more areas of Elmore, Hyde Park, Wolcott, Stowe and Morristown.

“The most significant portion of the build targets the remaining on-grid homes in Elmore, located in or near east Elmore, and the northeast corner of Hyde Park (Bornemann Rd. area), said Jeff Tilton, Lamoille FiberNet’s board chair “Using existing communication pole lines, Fidium will access east Elmore from Wolcott village, and Hyde Park from North Wolcott, so Wolcott residents  along these routes, including portions of VT Route 15, will also have fiber service.

In Morristown, Fidium will build the remaining spurs off VT Route 15 near Wolcott (e.g., Ferland Pit and Lois Lane) and into Wolcott to North Wolcott Rd. Finally, the Stowe build will serve the end of Luce Hill, Lower Sanborn, and the area at the intersection of Edson Hill and Weeks Hill.”

Construction is scheduled to be complete by mid-summer, weather permitting. If you live in these areas and want to know whether your address in on our build list, please email drops@lamoillefiber.net.

Tilton continued, saying “In more good news, Fidium announced its standard ‘drop’ (distance from the pole/pedestal to your premises) has increased from 500 feet to 2,000 feet — not just for Lamoille FiberNet-funded addresses, but all addresses serviceable by Fidium! Drop costs are a common barrier for many Vermonters. This new policy is a huge benefit to Lamoille residents and businesses, and we applaud Consolidated for making it so much easier and affordable to connect to the internet.”

Finally, thank you to all the constituents who applied to our Long Drop Program funding. Of approximately 160 applications, more than 90% are eligible for support. We expect the vast majority to benefit directly from Fidium’s new 2000’ drop policy. We are partnering with Fidium to develop estimates to address some of the more unusual situations which will require additional support using our State or local grant funds.

If you have not received an email from Lamoille FiberNet regarding your drop application, please email us at drops@lamoillefiber.net and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
